About Peggy Hall
Called a "legend" by Surfer Magazine for pioneering the global yoga+surf movement, Peggy has positively transformed the lives of thousands of surfers around the world with her best-selling YOGA for SURFERS® programs, fitness articles, audios, radio programs, podcasts and television appearances promoting her positive encouragement for all the waves of life.
An avid surfer, certified yoga instructor, author, speaker, wellness coach, Peggy put her passions together and is recognized as the pioneer of the popular surf+yoga movement.
Peggy grew up as a competitive swimmer in Southern California and has always been at home in the water.
From her early days swimming and playing water polo on the boy's team in high school to her adult years of long-distance ocean swims, Peggy finally took the plunge in her mid-30's and learned to surf, thanks to her then-boyfriend (now husband) David, who also introduced her to yoga.
Peggy loves to travel the world for yoga + surfing, filming yoga DVDs and holding retreats in places like Hawaii, Tahiti, Mexico and Australia.
As a frequent contributor to major media, Peggy has published hundreds of articles on health, fitness, wellness and nutrition.
For several years, Peggy appeared as the featured wellness expert for the ABC Radio Network and also starred as the national wellness expert on the Emmy-nominated daily television show, America Now.
After using yoga to heal her chronic shoulder tendonitis in the late 90's and discovering how it dramatically improved her surfing, she set out on a mission to spread the yoga vibe to as many surfers as possible!
After suffering with chronic shoulder tendinitis that threatened to curtail her surfing and swimming passion, Peggy created the first-ever surf-specific yoga series, YOGA for SURFERS®, which has since grown to 7 titles in the series.
Surf heroes including Tom Carroll, Taylor Knox and Garrett McNamara appear in and endorse YOGA for SURFERS® as a way to stay fit, focused and fearless on all the waves of life. Peggy hears from surfers every day who share their stories of how Yoga for Surfers helped them surf better -- and live better!
An inspiring and engaging speaker, Peggy was selected to lead yoga classes for Fortune Magazine's 50 Most Powerful Women Conference in 2007, alongside such luminaries as Ariana Huffington, Meg Whitman and Sally Ride. Billy Jean King taught tennis lessons, and Peggy Hall taught yoga!
Peggy has a loyal following in her yoga classes and presents special workshops on health and wellness for various resorts and spas throughout Southern California. She created the first-ever "Fit for Surf" conditioning program for Equinox Fitness.
Known for her enthusiastic and inspiring teaching style, Peggy teaches "feel good" yoga that results in total life enhancement. She uses an intuitive approach to create innovative, challenging and enjoyable classes. Her clear instruction and encouraging approach makes even the most demanding poses accessible to all, and her radiant energy is an excellent testament to the life-enhancing benefits of yoga!
In addition to receiving a Certificate in Yoga Studies from the University of California Irvine Extension, Peggy also completed her advanced teacher training at Sacred Movement in Santa Monica, CA. She is also certified by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) as a Personal Trainer and Weight and Lifestyle Management Consultant.
A longtime instructor at the university level, Peggy is the former Director of Teacher Education Programs at the University of California, Irvine Extension. She holds a master’s degree in international relations from the Monterey Institute of International Studies and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Fluent in French and Arabic, Peggy lived in Paris for a short time and also in Morocco for several years where she first taught English for the Peace Corps and then worked in marketing for Proctor & Gamble.
Prior to making a splash in the wellness industry, Peggy provided corporate training in business writing, presentation skills and accent reduction for dozens of Fortune 500 companies through her own cross-cultural communications business.
When she’s not teaching, writing or surfing, Peggy is involved in rescuing animals and helping place them in their "forever homes" through Compassion for All.org, the non-profit organization she founded with her husband David. Peggy and her husband live in Southern California with their Rottweiler Teddy and their beloved cats, two of which Peggy rescued while doing animal rescue work in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
