Are you Making this "Surfing" Mistake in Yoga?

Even if you’re not a pro surfer, chances are you’ve found yourself competing on the waves — in order to catch the waves!

That competitive nature of surfing caught me by surprise when I took up the sport as an adult.

Now maybe your situation is different, but here in the packed lineup of SoCal breaks, I soon figured out I had to stop sitting on the shoulder and get right into the belly of the break if I hoped to catch any waves, often jostling aggro surfers.

I had to try harder, paddle faster, dig deeper and push myself even further than I thought possible in order to catch waves in those crowded lineups.

Then, when I discovered yoga in the late 1990’s (geesh, that sounds so long ago…) I applied that same mindset: try harder, dig deeper, push myself…

But it was the exact wrong thing for me to do in my yoga practice.

Wait a minute, you’re thinking…. aren’t I supposed to “try” to do my best when doing yoga?

Just make sure that you are encouraging yourself in a positive manner instead of allowing opinion and judgement to sneak in and diminish the benefits you can get from your yoga practice.
